Mark Wilson keeping fit with Dundee United

JACKIE McNamara welcomed Mark Wilson back to Dundee United yesterday and insisted he doesn’t hold a grudge after Wilson took his place at Celtic.

McNamara is running the rule over Wilson, who clinched a move to Parkhead back in 2006 to fill the void left by the now-United manager.

McNamara, whose new-look side host Inverness at Tannadice tomorrow in their first home SPFL match of the new campaign, has handed the 29-year-old free agent the chance to keep fit following his summer departure from English Championship outfit Bristol City and refused to rule out making a move for him should he catch the eye.

McNamara said: “Mark was my replacement at Celtic so it shows I don’t hold a grudge!

“He’s in training with us to keep himself fit. You never know what might happen. He’s a good player with good experience.”

Wilson thanked McNamara for allowing him the chance to keep in shape as he bids to kick-start his career and admits he would jump at the chance of a return to Tayside where he began his career. He said: “My family are still down in Bristol but I’m up in Scotland this week so was looking for a bit of training. I’m grateful to them.

“I would favour coming back up the road as things didn’t really work out down south. Our home is still up here so I’d like something back in Scotland.

“Right now there’s nothing on the table but I wouldn’t rule anything out. If United offered me something I’d definitely consider it. The club is always in my heart because I had some of the best times of my life here.

“Some of my family are still in Dundee so it would be great. But United have a good squad and I’m not sure if they’re looking for someone in my position.”
