The former Scotland striker is currently using Rangers’ Murray Park training facilities as he recovers from surgery on a knee problem.

Miller, who will celebrate his 34th birthday next month, is under contract with Vancouver until June, but his future at the Canadian club is uncertain following the recent dismissal of their Scottish coach Martin Rennie.

Rangers manager Ally McCoist has made it clear he would be interested in bringing Miller back to the Ibrox club, where the player scored 67 goals in 146 appearances over two previous stints from 2000 to 2001 and 2008 to 2011.

While coy about the specific link to Rangers, Miller admitted his situation could be subject to change before the January transfer window closes.

“Anything can happen in football,” he said. “Until talks have taken place [with Rangers], I can’t comment on it. I’m just focused on getting the knee fixed and taking part in Vancouver’s pre-season.

“I’m scheduled to go back to Vancouver in mid-January, so I’ve got another couple of months before I have to get my head round that. I need to make sure I’m fit by then.

“I’ve got a contract and I’ll be part of the plans there until told otherwise. They are still looking for a new manager and it could happen any day soon.

“There are certain regulations in the MLS regarding when players must be told if they are being kept on. I think it’s 1 December, so they need to make a decision pretty soon.

“I’ve got a guaranteed contract until June, but you don’t know if you’ll be in the plans of the new manager. I’m just focused on getting this knee fixed before I head back, but who knows what can come up between now and 31 January?”
