Scottish FA partners up with Harris Tweed

THE SFA have teamed up with two Scots companies to provide a range of clothing for the Scottish football national team players and supporters.

Harris Tweed Hebrides of Shawbost in the Isle of Lewis and Edinburgh fashion house Walker Slater were commissioned by the SFA to produce a range of jackets and accessories.

The design combines the dark blue of the Scotland jersey with the sky blue of the Saltire.

National team head coach Gordon Strachan and the Scotland squad have been fitted out with their official Harris Tweed jackets.

Strachan said: “The Scotland fans arrive at games dressed for the occasion and now we will be able to do the same, through Harris Tweed.

“It is really smart and it will help bring us all together, players and fans alike.”

Brian Wilson, chairman of Harris Tweed Hebrides, said: “It’s a great partnership which links the national team to Scotland’s most iconic fabric.

“The idea was to produce something both Scottish and stylish which works both for players and supporters.”

Scotland captain Scott Brown, who today also became an author, also voiced a positive opinion.

He said: “The players all like this outfit and will enjoy wearing it. It looks great and is a lot more casual than what we are normally asked to wear.

“Everyone is looking for something classy and distinctive so I think Harris Tweed is a good fit for the Scotland national team.”
