Highlands and Islands honour Paris attack victims

Arrangements are also being put in place for Inverness Castle, Inverness Cathedral and Ness Bridge to be floodlit in the French tricolours

The national flag is flying at half-mast at the Council’s Headquarters and Town House in Inverness.

Highland Council leader Margaret Davidson expressed her sympathies on behalf of the local authority.

She said: “All of us will be thinking of those who died in Paris, those who lives and bodies have been shattered and all their families and friends.

“The Highland Council will be honouring them in several ways. We held a minute’s silence at 11am today together with the rest of the nation and millions of others across Europe.

“We will also be flying the French flag at council offices across the Highlands.”

She added: “This touches all of us. We now live our lives in the shadow of the threat of terrorism.

“We need to remain vigilant and report anything suspicious to the police, whilst it is imperative we continue to live our normal lives without allowing terrorism to shatter our freedom and the values we hold dear.”
