The money has allowed Tots Bots to move recently to larger premises on the city’s M8 Business Complex on the Queenslie Industrial Estate, from its previous site in Camelon Street.

A spokesman for the group, which makes washable nappies for customers such as Tesco and Boots and independent retailers, now plans “to increase the current 50-strong workforce with a dozen new jobs over the next year”.

UKSE, the Tata Steel subsidiary that was originally set up by the old British Steel to help growing companies in former steel producing areas, has backed Tots Bots since 2010.

Magnus Smythe, managing director of Tots Bots, said the support from the steel group had been “invaluable”, adding: “We now have working capital to activate our growth plans, which will see us expand the business.”
