With both sides making unforced errors and penalties galore, there was little flow to the match.

The home team’s Gregor Hunter opening the scoring from an early penalty, before converting a penalty try, to make it 10-0 after 15 minutes.

Selkirk’s Damian Byrne was in the sin bin at this point, to be joined there two minutes later by Hawks’ Jack Steele.

Play became bogged down for a spell, before, in 33 minutes, Hawks handling sent Robert Beattie over for a try in the corner, converted by Hunter, to give the home side a 17-0 lead at the break.

Selkirk came out firing on all cylinders after the break and good mauling by their pack saw Callum Marshall driven over for an unconverted try. Hawks hit back, skipper Brendan McGroarty surging over from a line-out, Hunter converting.

Hawks’ Gary Strain saw yellow, Selkirk attacked and, from another maul by their pack, Peter Forrest got over, but this try, like their first, was unconverted.

Hawks had the final word, flanker Matt Smith gathering an overthrown line-out ball and charging over for the bonus-point try, converted by Hunter.
