Partnerships with several of the biggest and best names in sports equipment will ensure the very best user experience for members.
Euan Smith, Acting Director for University of Glasgow Sport said, “The University of Glasgow is a world class, world changing University and the extension to our indoor sport facilities is indicative of our commitment to providing a world class learning environment for our students, staff and wider University community.
“We are excited by the new facility and partnering with the world’s finest suppliers who share our focus on quality and innovation to ensure our new facility is recognised as one of the best of its kind in the UK. We are extremely confident that it will be one of the best facilities in the country.”
Glasgow Chamber of Commerce chief executive Stuart Patrick added: “Sport is massively important to the prosperity of the city, as has been shown by the best-ever Commonwealth Games and the current World Gymnastics Championships amongst many other successes. It is fantastic that we can now add this wonderful new facility that I’m sure will produce many more athletes of whom we can be proud. Well done to the University of Glasgow.”
The new facility links through the existing Stevenson building and is spread over four levels.
PowerPlay is 722sqm and will be the leading High Performance Strength and Conditioning facility in Scotland
Pulse is a 732sqm cardiovascular and conditioning area
A 661sqm Sports Hall will become the new home for indoor sport at Glasgow and will accommodate badminton, basketball, netball and volleyball athletes and teams as well as providing new activity space for recreational use.
Meanwhile, a FanZone will provide a dedicated space for students, staff and alumni to come and support athletes and teams as they represent the #BlackAndGold of Glasgow. When competitive sport is not taking place the bleacher seating can be rolled away to provide a multi-purpose space for members.
