Govan murder probe launched after woman’s body found

A murder inquiry has been launched after the death of a 25-year-old woman.

Police were called to a flat in Minto Street in the Govan area of Glasgow at about 5pm on Wednesday evening and discovered the body of Katie Rourke.

Police Scotland Detective Chief Inspector Allan Burton said: “Officers have been conducting door-to-door inquiries and we are gathering and reviewing CCTV footage to gain additional information as part of this ongoing investigation.

“A young woman has lost her life and significant efforts are being made to locate the person responsible. If anyone has any information, no matter how insignificant it may seem, please do pass it on to police.

“Any small piece of information could prove vital in this murder inquiry.”

It is understood officers are following a positive line of inquiry.

The family of Ms Rourke, who was from Broughty Ferry near Dundee, have been informed and a report will be sent to the procurator fiscal.
