Gala got off to the best possible start when hooker Matt Carryrer was driven over for the opening try in only two minutes and Craig Dods converted. However, two tries by Stirling’s Danny Gilmour, pictured, in the space of four minutes put a new spin on the game.

Stirling were in command and it was no surprise when Johnny Hope crashed over the line.

Gala needed a score to stay in contention and Luke Pettie cut the deficit to three points.

Then, in the second minute of injury time, Sam Johnson added a fourth try and with it the bonus point.

A quickly-taken penalty by George Graham sent Graham Speirs in for a try to lift Gala spirits in 44 minutes and Craig Dods drew the teams level with a drop goal.

Stirling regained their composure and Shaun Treweek broke through several tackles to score and added the conversion, and the stand-off kicked a last-minute penalty to seal the win.
