The event, coinciding with Small Business Saturday, has been set up by online marketplace notonthehighstreet.com (NOTHS) to “shine a light” on this sector, and the skills and “more thoughtful approach” it brings at a time of year associated with mass consumption.

The company has installed an interactive digital Christmas tree in Edinburgh, showcasing some of NOTHS’ Scottish partners. Its chief executive Simon Belsham said: “The world’s most innovative design-led businesses started in the UK and we haven’t really got a day to celebrate everything that they do, so our ambition is that Colour Saturday become a day in the festive calendar for years to come.”
