Campaign to name plane after tragic Edie takes off

Tom and Cheryl Murphy, from Kirkcaldy, lost their beloved daughter Edie Rose after the two-year-old suffered a seizure at home.

Following a suggestion by a friend, they asked their extended family to vote in a competition organised by tour operators Thomson to name a new 787 Dreamliner.

Whoever wins the most votes will have their name written on the side of the jet.

The Murphy’s Facebook appeal has caught the imagination of the public and has been shared more than 36,000 times since it was posted on Friday.

More than 94,000 votes have already been cast for Edie. The winner of the competition will be revealed by Thomson at the end of the month.

“Our beautiful little girl passed away so suddenly and far to soon, she got poorly very quickly and sadly gained her angel wings,” mum Cheryl (31) posted on Facebook on Saturday.

“Some of you who are friends of mine may have seen the hashtag #FlyHighEdie doing the rounds.

“We said goodbye to the beautiful Edie yesterday at her celebration of life whilst wearing converse and wearing flowery clothes - just as Edie would have wanted,

“This morning we have found Thomson holidays are running a competition to help name one of their aeroplanes and we have thought this was a great way for Edie to continue flying high. All I ask is if you could help and vote for the name.”
