Biffy Clyro, who performed at the event in 2010, have said there was no other gig quite like Hogmanay - and they described it as the “biggest event in the calendar”.

Preparing for tonight’s event at a city hotel, the band said: “We played before in 2010, and we feel very privileged to be back.

“It’s the biggest party of the year in the most beautiful location.

“There isn’t another city that celebrates the turn of the year more than Edinburgh so we can’t wait for tonight.”

They added: “It’s more of a party - it’s less about the band and more about the occasion.

“There’s a lot of pressure because loads of people are gearing up for this night, because people gear up for it for a while beforehand.

“We have missed that pressure since we haven’t played a show for a year.

“But it’s great to be back in such a picturesque city - and the Capital of Scotland.”
