Harry Redknapp’s Championship outfit will send a representative to Tannadice today for United’s home Premiership clash with Kilmarnock to run the rule over Souttar. And the Loftus Road side are prepared to match the £600,000 offer made by Sunderland, which was accepted by the Tangerines earlier this week. The London club would be willing to loan the 17-year-old straight back to United until the end of the season in order to allow him first-team experience before going back south to mount a challenge for a first-team place.

United boss Jackie McNamara has insisted he would have no hesitation fielding Souttar against Kilmarnock despite the recent speculation over his future so the young defender looks set to get another chance to impress his growing list of admirers. United have meanwhile handed left-back Andy Robertson a new three-year deal. The 19-year-old defender only turned professional this summer after sealing a switch to Tannadice from League Two amateurs Queen’s Park. His new deal will keep him with United until May 2016 and comes just days after he was handed his first Scotland Under-21 call-up for the European Under-21 Championship qualifiers with Slovakia and Georgia. Robertson said: “I was only too happy to sign the extension.”
