William Hill has offered odds of just 3/1 for Davies, the former Nottingham Forest and Derby County manager, to take the post.

Stuart McCall, who left Motherwell last month, and ex-Hibernian boss Terry Butcher are among the other candidates the firm has shortlisted to take over, with 4/1 and 9/2 odds respectively for either one of the pair to take the Ibrox hotseat.

“Ally McCoist has not gone yet but we are already seeing loads of speculation about his replacement,” said William Hill spokesman Rupert Adams.

Other candidates being offered to punters to bet on include Dennis Wise (11/1), ex-Rangers manager Walter Smith (14/1), former midfield maestro Brian Laudrup (16/1) and Barry Ferguson (20/1), currently plying his trade at Clyde.
