Beattie set for Dundee debut against Accies

Dundee manager John Brown is poised to hand Craig Beattie a quickfire debut in tomorrow’s crunch clash against high-flying Hamilton.

Beattie signed for the Dens Park club in midweek as he bids to kickstart his career. And Brown believes the former Celtic, Hearts and Scotland striker is in the right kind of condition to lead the line against Accies.

Brown said: “Craig is ready to play. He does have a hurdle to get over and that is the lack of matches over the last couple of seasons. Match fitness is an issue but I would say he is OK to play from what I have seen in training. You can see Craig’s quality. He is looking sharp. I think Craig has a point to prove.

“I have had a lot of phone calls telling me to steer clear because of injuries. But I had a lot of injuries myself and people were advising other people to steer clear of me.”

Dundee are bidding to close an early-season gap on league leaders Accies and Brown knows it’s a key match.

He said: “This is a massive
period for us and we have a really tough game against Hamilton on Saturday. I’m not surprised to see them doing well.

“It is five points the gap
between us and Hamilton and we want to make it two. We want to win the game.”
