The Art Deco piano was designed in the 1930s by American manufacturer Krakauer and is made of a polished walnut veneer.

It was owned by the Grammy and Oscar-winning singer and actress until 1994, when she auctioned items from her collection in New York.

The 144cm wide x 99cm high instrument, which comes with a matching piano stool, has since been kept in Scotland.

Experts believe it could soar far beyond its pre-sale estimate of £3,000-5,000 due to its unusual provenance.

John Mackie, director of Lyon & Turnbull, said there had already been interest in the piano “from around the world”.
