Having allowed Currie to play all the rugby in the first quarter, although only registering an early penalty from Joe Reynolds, Ayr scored the first of what were to be five touchdowns when stand-off Frazier Climo intercepted on half way and then kicked the conversion.

Despite messing up a number of chances Ayr went in at the pause leading 12-3 thanks to a touch down from Grant Anderson to finish off good handling.

Two tries in the first ten minutes of the second half decided the outcome. First Ross Curle touched down after a break by No.8 Pete McCallum then, from close in, McCallum got over for the bonus point; Climo converted both.

Latterly Currie gained some territory with No.8 Ross Weston grabbing an unconverted try, only for Curle to have the final word after good work by scrum half Ally Price.

Ayr now travel to bottom club Selkirk next weekend bidding to maintain their place at the summit as the halfway point fast approaches. Their closest rivals Melrose, meanwhile, face a tricky trip to Currie.
