Arbroath manager Sheerin signs new two-year deal

ARBROATH player-boss Paul Sheerin has agreed a new two-year deal, which will see him remain at Gayfield until 2015.

The 38-year-old, who took the reigns at the Red Lichties three years ago, guided the Angus club to the first piece of national silverware in their 133-year history in 2011 as they claimed the Third Division title. Sheerin has continued to enhance his reputation by cementing the club’s place in the third tier, while guiding them to the verge of a play-off place this term and holding Celtic to a replay in the Scottish Cup.

Arbroath will look to boost their own play-off chances and deal Stenhousemuir’s a near fatal blow when the sides meet at Gayfield tonight. However, the Red Lichties are reeling from the injury suffered by Brian Kerr in Saturday’s 4-2 win over Forfar.

The former Scotland cap is facing a lengthy spell on the side-lines with a cruciate injury, as Sheerin explained. “It does not look good for Brian, but we need a scan to be sure and hopefully that will happen this week. It looks like a cruciate injury and that will have ended his season,” he said.

A five game winless run has hit Stenhousemuir’s chances of a first ever play-off place for the First Division and manager Martyn Corrigan is looking for better at Arbroath tonight. Corrigan said: “For some reason we have started playing with nervousness and we need to get back to playing with confidence.”
