Photographer Pete Summers captured the vibrant light show when it appeared for just a few minutes across the bay in the early hours of Tuesday.
Taken at Hopeman beach, Moray, Pete managed to snap a couple of pictures of the natural wonder before the sky once again clouded over.
He said: “I knew there was a chance of seeing them.

“They’re probably not the best I’ve seen but I got them none the less.”
Pete’s pictures show the bright green colours reflected in the rock pools at the beach at around 12.30am.
He added: “I’m quite pleased with them.”
