More extreme weather is set to hit Scotland this weekend.

Scotland is set to be hit by two storms over the weekend, with the country bracing for both Storm Austen and Storm Boelo.

High winds and rain are expected, with the Met Office issuing yet another yellow weather warning.

Here is everything you need to know.

What areas are covered by the yellow weather warning

The weather warning covers the whole country, with the exception of Shetland.

It also covers the North of England and Northern Ireland.

A statement on the Met Office website confirms: “Strong westerly winds will spread across northern parts of the UK during Saturday evening.

“Very windy conditions will persist overnight and through much of Sunday before gradually easing from the southwest later.”

When is the weather warning in place?

The weather warning is in place for Saturday evening and Sunday.

The Met Office predicts that Storm Boelo will hit Scotland around 6 pm on Saturday, and last until around 9 pm on Sunday.

It follows directly on the heels of Storm Austen, set to hit the Central Belt, including Edinburgh and Glasgow, and the North East of Scotland, including Aberdeen, on Friday and Saturday.

What should you expect?

Storm Boelo will see extremely high winds hit Scotland, which can cause property damage, travel delays and disruption.

For anyone travelling, check ahead of time to make sure that there are no delays and cancellations. ScotRail usually update their social media pretty quickly for those travelling by train.

The Met Office stated on their website: “Gusts of 55-65 mph are likely widely with some coastal or exposed areas potentially seeing gusts of 70-80 mph or more.

“Strong winds will be combined with spells of heavy rain, these most frequent over western Scotland.”
