Katherine Jenkins announces Aberdeen charity concert

Opera singer Katherine Jenkins is to perform a one-off charity concert in Aberdeen to raise money for children and adults with disabilites.

The lyric mezzo-soprano will perform at His Majesty’s Theatre on Saturday, February 20, where she will be supported by the Aberdeen-based chamber choir, Con Anima.

The event, sponsored by BP, is being organised by the Lord Provost’s Charitable Trust, with all proceeds going to its chosen beneficiary, Scottish social care charity Cornerstone.

Cornerstone provides care and support services for adults, young people and children across Scotland who live with learning disabilities, physical disabilities, autism, dementia and other support needs.

Edel Harris, chief executive of Cornerstone, said: “We are very grateful to BP for sponsoring this special concert and to the Lord Provost’s Charitable Trust for choosing Cornerstone as the beneficiary.

“Katherine is a hugely popular and high profile recording artist and I am positive the evening will be a huge success.

“The money raised on the night will help Cornerstone provide specialist support and services to adults, young people and children in the North-east who have learning disabilities, physical disabilities and other complex needs.”

After winning singing competitions in her youth, Jenkins studied at the Royal Academy of Music, and became a music singing teacher.

Lord Provost George Adam said he was absolutely “thrilled” that the singer was coming to the North East.

He said: “We are absolutely thrilled Katherine Jenkins has agreed to perform in Aberdeen for the Lord Provost’s Charitable Trust for one night only in February, to raise money for Cornerstone and help the people the charity supports,” he said.

“With the superb backing of Aberdeen choir Con Anima, this will be a fantastic night for music fans and we expect the tickets to sell very quickly.”

Established in 1980, Cornerstone supports over 2,600 people each year and delivers services across 20 local authority areas in Scotland.
