As of today (25 Mar), Lidl has rolled out new customer food donation boxes in stores nationwide, to support vulnerable families and individuals.
Any food or other groceries are accepted for donation, and the boxes will now be placed in store for customers who wish to help.
Christian Härtnagel, CEO at Lidl GB explained, “The current situation continues to be very challenging for everyone.
“In these trying times, it’s vitally important that we look to help those within our communities who are in most need of our support.”
Where will the donations go?
This charitable initiative comes as an extension to Lidl’s ‘Feed it Back’ scheme, which began in 2017, in partnership with the charity Neighbourly.
Donations will be delivered across Neighbourly's vast network of community partners including to food banks, schools, care homes, soup kitchens, homeless shelters, youth groups, community centres, health charities and more. The scheme has so far donated the equivalent of over five million meals to partner charities.
Steve Butterworth, CEO at Neighbourly, added, "Our network of charities and community causes are working round the clock at this time to support isolated and vulnerable members of the community with food and basic essentials. Anything that customers can donate will make a huge difference to someone in their community.
Funding available for community projects
Last week, Lidl announced it will donate £100,000 towards the Covid-19 Emergency Community Fund.
