Coronavirus battling lockdown measures remain in place across the UK, but are lifting at a slow but steady rate.

As such, many families will be wondering when they might be able to get away from it all.

International breaks may be off the table for the foreseeable future, but surely a day out to a theme park is on the cards?

Here's everything we know about when theme park resorts in Scotland could be reopening, including official word from some of the top attractions in the country:

When will theme parks reopen?

Scotland’s ‘route map’ for easing out of lockdown has been slightly more cautious than that of England’s or Northern Ireland’s.

As such, there is no set date as to when we might expect theme parks and other leisure facilities to be reopened.

In England, the date on which the Government expects to be able to reopen remaining businesses and premises that have been required to close (including leisure facilities), is 4 July.

But in Scotland, it looks as though theme parks won’t be able to reopen until at least ‘Phase 3’ of the Scottish Government’s plans.

That phase allows for museums, galleries, libraries, and cinemas to reopen (subject to physical distancing and hygiene measures), and while no explicit mention of theme parks is made, it’s fairly safe to assume they would fall in line with these leisure facilities.

When theme parks do reopen in Scotland, don’t expect your visit to be as it was this time last year; all will have to introduce a number of additional hygiene and safety measures to keep both guests and staff safe.

What are the top theme parks saying?

Landmark Forest Adventure Park say they are are closely monitoring the outbreak of COVID-19 and will be posting regular updates.

The park has been closed since 22 March in the interest of both our staff and guest’s health and wellness.

“The Bamboozeleum, Forest Safari and Shooting Gallery are now all closed until further notice. We have just reduced our winter ticket prices by 10%. If anyone is planning on visiting the park then we would recommend that they use their card to pay by contactless.”

Codona's Amusement Park has been closed since 20 March, but their website states that they will work with anyone who holds an upcoming booking with them to reschedule for a future date.

East Links Family Park partially reopened on 4 June in line with government guidelines; while play equipment, the train and indoor spaces remain closed, the parks walkways and mini golf are open to park members only.

When will theme parks open in England?

The date many theme parks expect to be operational again in England is Saturday 4 July.

That’s the date on which the Government there expects to be able to move to ‘Step Three’ of its removing of lockdown restrictions, reopening remaining businesses and premises that have been required to close, including leisure facilities.

As always, the guidance is subject to change, and don’t expect your visit to be as it was this time last year.

“Venues which are, by design, crowded and where it may prove difficult to enact distancing may still not be able to re-open safely at this point, or may be able to open safely only in part,” say the Government.
