Washing machines recalled due to overheating and fire fears

Two models of Swan washing machine, sold by online retailer Very, have ben recalled due to a fault which could cause them to overheat, leading to a risk of fire.

Some of the SW1010 and SW1020 units - sold between 2010 and 2012 - have been found to have failed in use due to a fault with the internal control unit.

This can lead to overheating during use and, in some cases there is a small risk of a fire developing.

The company is taking the precautionary step of replacing the control units on all affected items.

Anyone who believes they have an affected machine is advised to stop using it and disconnect or switch it off at the wall socket.

To confirm whether a machine is affected by the recall, owners can check the model number displayed on the front of the machine on the rating label, against the affected model numbers below:

Anyone whose model number matches one on the list above should contact 0800 Repair on the free phone helpline number 0800 888 6124 (Monday to Friday 9am to 8pm and Saturday 10am to 4pm) or email [email protected].The company will arrange for a free replacement of the control unit by their repair partner 0800 Repair. The appointment, free of charge, will be arranged at a time convenient to the owner and will last approximately 30 to 45 minutes.

The manufacturer have also asked that anyone who has passed on an affected washing machine to a new owner to, where possible, pass on those contact details via the number listed.
