Tins of sweetcorn are being recalled for safety reasons - here’s what to do if you bought one

Tins of Green Giant Original sweetcorn are being recalled by the Food Standards Agency (FSA) due to a fault with the packaging.

Manufacturers General Mills said the voluntary recall only affects a “limited number” of tins sold in the UK, and the move is being taken as a precaution.

Why are the tins being recalled?

The company has issued the recall due to a packaging fault, which could make the product unsafe to eat.

The issue was discovered during routine quality checks, affecting around 200,000 cases in the UK.

The recall notice states, "General Mills UK is recalling batches of Green Giant Original Sweetcorn due to faulty seams which could potentially lead to food quality and safety issues.

"Point-of-sale recall notices will be displayed in stores supplied with the implicated batches."

Which batches are affected?

The recall applies to 198g tins of Green Giant Original Sweetcorn, with a best before date of July 2023.

The following batch codes are affected:

- 293 1S1

- 294 1S1

- 295 1S1

What should I do if I bought some?

Customers who have purchased any of the affected product are advised not to eat it.

Instead, customers should contact General Mills via an online form on their website, or email [email protected]

Alternatively, you can call the careline number on 0800 897 777 to arrange for a refund.

A receipt is not required to get your money back.
