Non-essentials shops temporarily closed their doors when the UK went into lockdown on 23 March. Some high street stores, including large retail chains have struggled to cope with loss of business.

AskTraders has analysed 50 towns and cities, compiling a list of store locations of businesses that have already dissolved or claimed administration since the coronavirus outbreak.

Using this information, they looked at which cities are set to see the largest closures in the country, and therefore most at risk of the biggest decline of their high street.

London to see most store closures

The study shows that London will see the most store closures, with over 128 stores to close their doors in the capital. London high streets have seen the loss of Monsoon and Italian restaurant chain Carluccios.

Manchester is the second city in the UK with the high street at risk of declining the most, with over 54 stores set to close.

For Manchester, it is the loss of its fashion retailers that will have the most effect, with the loss of Accessorize, Monsoon, Karen Millen and Oasis taking their toll on the high street.

Glasgow was third on the list with 35 stores, and Leeds came fourth with 34 stores set to close.
