There have been countless TV shows and films set in Scotland, from Chariots of Fire and Restless Natives to Taggart and Shetland.

But which of them resonate most?

We asked members of our Screen Babble discussion group on Facebook to name the TV and films that sum up the area they're from.

Here's what our Scottish members had to say.

Nostalgic youth

For a trip down memory lane, Gus White suggests coming-of-age classic Gregory's Girl - set in North Lanarkshire - will chime with any Scot of a certain age.

"[It] takes me back to those early eighties days in my youth. Being awkward and geeky and having nothing to do except go up the park or the shopping centre.

"The small town daftness if it all. Slightly suspect teachers, being rubbish at sport and in love with unattainably beautiful girls. Also, I spent a lot of times around penguins..."

Yvonne McCue, meanwhile, highlights The Illusionist by Sylvain Chomet as offering a "really beautiful" stylised vision of Edinburgh in the '50s.

"I especially love how the views of and from Arthur's Seat are portrayed. It's a lovely, gentle film with a nice wee story. Gorgeous film set in a gorgeous city."

The dichotomy of Edinburgh?

"Edinburgh is a city of real contrasts," suggests Janet Marshall, who believes that '60s classic The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie and '90s TV drama Looking Out for JoJo - starring Robert Carlyle - "reflect both".

That said, not all Scottish screen outings meet with universal favour.

When it comes to Glasgow TV drama Lip Service, Gus White suggests it was "terrible".

"Not the LGBTQ+ content which was all very positive - but the terrible acting, the unrecognisable depiction of modern 'Glesgah', and plot holes you could drive a corporation bus through..."
