Storm Dennis to hit UK with gales of up to 70mph with multiple weather warnings in place
Storm Ciara recently hit the UK, leaving an aftermath of strong winds, heavy rain, snow and ice - but Storm Dennis is now forecast to bring further unsettled conditions this weekend.
The weather system will develop in the North Atlantic, before tracking eastwards towards the UK and Ireland over the coming days, passing to the north of Scotland on Saturday 15 February.

Hide AdSteve Ramsdale, Chief Meteorologist at the Met Office said: “Another spell of very wet and windy weather is expected for Saturday, although Storm Dennis is currently not expected to be as severe as Ciara disruption is still likely.
“Our confidence in the forecast means we have been able to issue severe weather warnings well in advance, giving people time to prepare for potential impacts of the storm.”
This week’s weather
Thursday 13 February will see rain and hill snow over southern Scotland, northern England and Northern Ireland dying out. To the south blustery showers will die out from the west.
There will be wintry showers for the Northern Isles, but much of northern Scotland dry and cold.

Hide AdWinds will continue to ease with remaining showers dying out, leaving a cold night with fog patches for central and eastern parts. There will be gales and rain for the northwest later.
Friday 15 February will see a chilly start for northeastern parts, but rain and strong winds, with coastal gales, moving southeastwards. Southern parts staying dry until evening. Further blustery showers following to the northwest.
Storm Dennis to hit the UK this weekend
Storm Dennis will then bring heavy rain and strong to gale force winds with mild temperatures on Saturday and Sunday. Sunshine and showers on Monday, very windy in the north at first.
The Met Office UK outlook for Saturday 15 February explains that “Very windy, wet conditions” will develop on Saturday.

Hide AdA yellow weather warning for wind is in place for parts of the UK on Saturday from 12pm until 23.59pm.
The Met Office said: “Very strong winds in association with Storm Dennis are expected on Saturday across many parts of England and Wales.
“Gusts of 50 mph are expected widely inland, with around 60mph in places. Around the coasts, especially in the west and south, gusts of 60-70 mph are likely. This will be accompanied by heavy rain at times.”

Hide AdA yellow weather warning for rain is also in place for parts of the UK from 12pm on Saturday until 9pm on Sunday (16 Feb).
The Met Office said: "Heavy rain associated with Storm Dennis is expected to affect parts of England and Wales over the weekend and may bring some disruption."
A yellow weather warning for wind is also in place for multiple areas of England on Sunday (16 Feb), from 10am to 23.59pm, with a second wind warning in place for most of Scotland, from 12pm on Sunday (16 Feb) to 12pm on Monday (17 Feb).
