Rangers transfers: Michael Beale target close to signing, duo pen new Ibrox contracts, including 13-goal star

Rangers boss Michael Beale hinted the club will announce their first summer transfer on Wednesday with further additions imminent once the season is finished as the rebuild at Ibrox gathers pace.

Cifuentes latest

One of the first names through the door in the off-season could be Ecuadorian international Jose Cifuentes. Currently playing his trade in MLS with LAFC the 24-year-old has been strongly linked with a move to Ibrox with reports last week suggesting a deal was close to being agreed. According to the Daily Record, the transfer will be completed “over the coming days” with the American club keen to cash in on the player ahead of the expiry of his contract. Cifuentes, who has played more than 110 times for the club, is out of contract at the end of the year following the completion of the 2023 MLS season. It means Rangers, who are set to beat Toulouse to the transfer, are likely able to sign the player on what will be a cut-price fee.

New Ibrox deals

On Monday afternoon Rangers announced Jamie Newton had signed a contract extension, keeping him at the club until the end of the 2023/24 season. The 18-year-old will likely make the step up to the club’s B team for next season’s Lowland League campaign. Another contract announcement is likely with the Daily Record reporting Arron Lyall has signed a one-year extension following his first-team appearance against Hibs on Sunday. The 19-year-old winger was a late substitute at Easter Road in a season where he has impressed with Rangers B, scoring 13 times in 34 Lowland League appearances.
