JLL said the restructuring would allow Mr Irvine to devote more of his time to business development and client relationship management. Mr Robertson will effectively take on the day-to-day management of operations north of the Border.

Robert Orr, chief executive of JLL Europe, said: "Andy, Alan, Alasdair and Neil have a phenomenal combined experience of the sector and I have every confidence that their mix of skills, expertise and client knowledge will improve the growth and success of our Scottish business."

Mr Irvine, who has been with JLL for 26 years - the last eight of them as managing director - added: "We are very positive about the future of our business in Scotland and believe the new management structure will provide a really strong base for the next stage of our growth.

"We have considerably strengthened our team in Glasgow with several new appointments and we have more planned, so we can take advantage of the potential that the west of Scotland has to offer."

There is to be a rolling handover throughout the year, with the management changes taking full effect at the start of 2005.

Last year, JLL’s Scottish practice, which is managing agent for the Gyle Shopping Centre, handled 32 investment deals with a total value in excess of 177 million.
