Zoo's chief due to retire

THE man behind a bid to bring giant pandas to Edinburgh Zoo is to step down.

David Windmill, chief executive of the Royal Zoological Society of Scotland, which owns Edinburgh Zoo, will retire shortly.

Mr Windmill said: "I shall continue to lead the Society until my successor is in place.

"We have a clear seven-year plan which will see the redevelopment of the Zoo and an increase in the conservation work that we do especially, I hope, with giant pandas."
