Zimbabwe mines to fund state pay rises

ZIMBABWE'S state mining corporation is reported to be paying government employee raises this month with revenues from diamond fields controlled by allies of president Robert Mugabe.

The finance ministry, controlled by the prime minister's party in the troubled coalition government, has said it didn't have the money from taxes to pay wage increases.
