Youth football club is first in area to receive prize

Loanhead Miners’ Youth Football Club has become the first club in Midlothian to achieve the Community Club honour as part of the Scottish Football Association’s Quality Mark awards.

Club secretary Peter Frame was presented with the award by David Drummond, the Scottish FA’s south east regional manager and David Sheldon, the Scottish FA’s south east regional club development manager. Mr Frame said: “It’s a great honour and recognises the commitment the club has to making sure it is the best it can be for the kids in the area.”

The club, which is supported by Midlothian Council, won the honour by fulfilling a number of criteria covering management, administration, player and coach development, planning and welfare.

The SFA agreed Loanhead, which coaches around 230 children from four to 16, was “outstanding” in its commitment to achieving the highest standards.
