Youngsters unveil Andy Murray Wimbledon stamps

Young Scots tennis players have launched a set of stamps marking Andy Murray’s historic Wimbledon win.

The 26-year-old became the first British man to win the Wimbledon title in 77 years with his victory in July.

Two of the stamps show the Murray with the trophy and two are action shots from his win against Novak Djokovic in the final.

Emma Johnston, Wallace McInnes, Bethan Clark and Euan Anderson posed with giant versions of the stamps on the tennis courts of Dunblane Sports Club where it all started for Murray.

Andrew Hammond, managing director of stamps and collectibles at Royal Mail, said: “His historic win at Wimbledon has made the nation proud, and we can now celebrate his success with this new stamp issue.

“Andy’s stamp joins just a handful of special stamps we have issued to mark unique moments in British sporting history, including the next-day gold medal stamps for London 2012, England’s Ashes and football and rugby world cup wins.”

It is the second time Murray’s achievements have been marked by a Royal Mail stamp.

A gold medal stamp was issued to mark his men’s singles win at the Olympics last summer.

The set of four stamps cost £3.76 but only a “handful” are available from tomorrow, Royal Mail said.
