Youngsters make mark with collage

A GIANT collage created by local young people has gone on show in a community centre in the south east of the city.

The artwork has taken pride of place within the Valley Park Community Centre after more than 50 youngsters took part in a nine-month art project with artist Martin Ayers.

The project was supported by grants from the Liberton and Gilmerton Neighbourhood Partnership and the group Making Waves.

More than 30 workshops offered activities such as graffiti art, street dance, kite making, circus skills, photography and digital art.

Pauline Fordyce, a community worker on the project, said: "The artwork is bold in design and ambitious in scale. The theme is joyous and celebrates the energy, friendship and creativity of the young participants and their response to the urban environment and local green park space."
