Young and old celebrate fundraising

AN Easter party hosted by school pupils has been held at a care home in the Capital to celebrate their fundraising drive.

Fifth and sixth year pupils at Drummond Community High School held the party at the Porthaven Care Home, where they have been visiting residents regularly for the last year.

So far this year the pupils have raised 750 through events including boys' leg waxing, dress-down days, supermarket bag packing and bake sales. The money raised has gone towards buying residents a 42in television.

At yesterday's party, the pupils helped residents make Easter bonnets, colour in Easter eggs and take part in games.

Councillor Paul Edie, the city's health leader, said: "Not only have the pupils gained a lot from the experience and heard the life stories of the older people, the care home residents have also benefited from the youngsters' smiling faces and great company."

Susan Lambert, principal teacher at the school, said: "The aim of the project is bring happiness and companionship to residents and break down some of the barriers often associated with young people."
