Yorkshire hit by second earthquake in a month

BRITAIN was struck by an earthquake last night, the Edinburgh-based British Geological Survey (BGS) confirmed.

The tremor, which was felt across the north-west of England, was measured at a magnitude of 3.6 and is the second to hit the region in less than a month.

The epicentre of the quake is believed to have been near Ripon, North Yorkshire, but the tremor was felt as far afield as Cumbria and West Yorkshire.

Dr Brian Baptie from the BGS said: "We believe the earthquake was just west of Ripon in the Yorkshire Dales region." He said it struck at 9:02pm.
