Yob attacked police officers in ambulance

A VIOLENT thug carried out a sustained attack on police taking him to hospital after a Hogmanay fight.

Gary McFarlane, 20, attacked two constables in the ambulance taking him to hospital, a court heard yesterday.

After causing a disturbance at hospital and alarming accident and emergency staff, he then assaulted two officers at the local police station.

McFarlane, sporting two black eyes, a broken nose and a cut eye, pleaded guilty to two charges of police assault when he appeared from custody at Livingston Sheriff Court.

He also admitted committing a breach of the peace at St John's Hospital, by shouting and swearing and conducting himself in a disorderly manner.

All three offences were committed while McFarlane was on bail and on probation.

Claire Martin, prosecuting, said: "The aggression shown by the accused was over a sustained period of time - in the ambulance, in the hospital and in the police station."

Hazel McGuinness, defending, said McFarlane had "issues" related to drinking alcohol. Sentence was deferred until January 20.
