Yacht hopes blown away

HIGH winds have torn the sails on the Edinburgh Inspiring Capital yacht, as it bids to complete the latest leg of the Clipper 09-10 Round the World Yacht Race.

The entire fleet was battered by extreme weather during the latest part of race eight, taking the teams from San Francisco to Panama.

For the team on board Edinburgh Inspiring Capital, carrying the Evening News logo around the world, it was their mainsail which took the hit, suffering a huge tear.
