Wristbands raise £300 for cancer charity

A TRANENT teenager has raised hundreds of pounds for a cancer charity after watching her boyfriend battle the disease.

Erin Conlon, of Sanderson's Grove, designed and sold 200 wristbands at 2 each to family and friends to raise 300 for Teenage Cancer Trust.

The 17-year-old decided to fundraise for the charity after her boyfriend, Aaron McGinn, was diagnosed with Nodular Lymphocyte Predominant Hodgkin's disease in May last year.

Aaron, 17, underwent months of gruelling treatment in hospital, including a stem cell transplant. Following the treatment, Aaron - who also lives in Tranent - was told that the cancer was in remission.

Teenage Cancer Trust has launched a 1.6 million fundraising appeal to develop services for teenagers and young adults in the east of Scotland which, if successful, will include a new cancer treatment unit at the Western specifically for young people aged 17 to 24.
