World's flood aid under fire

MPs have criticised "unacceptable" delays in getting international aid to the victims of last year's devastating floods in Pakistan.

The Commons international development committee said that of the 1.2 billion called for by the United Nations, as of February only about two-thirds, or 730 million, had been received. Of that, just 440m worth of assistance had actually reached victims on the ground.

However, the committee said that the UK could be proud of its contribution, with the Department for International Development supplying 134m in assistance and at least 64m coming from individual donors.
