An incredible video of a man saving a great white shark which had become stranded on a beach has gone viral, with over 2 million hits and counting.

An incredible video of a man saving a great white shark which had become stranded on a beach has gone viral, with over 2 million hits and counting.

Shane Cox was fishing for gummy sharks, a local delicacy, on Ninety Mile Beach on the south-eastern Australian coast, however he accidentally hooked a small great white instead.

Cox then cut the shark free and continued his hunt for gummies.

But he noticed a short while later that the great white had become beached so he went over to help the troubled creature.

With the shark thrashing wildly on the sand, Cox realised the hook was still in its mouth, so he risked serious injury by removing it and dragging the shark back into the sea in order to save its life.

The video shows Cox positioning himself precariously close to the snapping shark as he stands behind it and pulls it back into the water. However, the disorientated creature washes up several more times but the brave (or foolhardy) Cox repeatedly pulls it back out to deeper water to get it to safety.

His partner can be heard in the background warning children to stay out of the water as the shark gradually makes its way further out to sea.

Video of the amazing feat, which is thought to have taken place a few years back, has now been seen by 2,429,318 people around the world
