US court jails drug lord Coke

A JAMAICAN drug baron, whose extradition to America sparked gang war in a Kingston slum in 2010 in which more than 70 people died, has been jailed for 23 years for drug and gun trafficking.

Christopher “Dudus” Coke, who was extradited in June 2010, was sentenced yesterday in Manhattan federal court after pleading guilty to racketeering.

Coke had written to the judge describing his good works on behalf of slum-dwellers and asking for leniency. But several women abused by his gang demanded a tough sentence. Prosecutors say Coke terrorised anyone who interfered with his drug operation.
