The Golden Globes: Lincoln, Argo and Django Unchained lead nominations
Spielberg’s Lincoln has been nominated for seven awards, including best film drama, best actress for Sally Field, best actor for Daniel Day-Lewis and best director for Spielberg.
Argo was also well received by critics, with the film earning a total of five nominations including a Best Director nod for Affleck.

Hide AdDjango Unchained managed five nominations, including best director for Tarantino and best supporting actor for Leonardo Di Caprio.
Tom Hooper’s highly anticipated Les Miserables is up for best musical or comedy, with a Best Supporting Actress nod for Anne Hathaway.
Also in the running for best motion picture is Ang Lee’s Life of Pi and Kathyrn Bigelow’s Zero Dark Thirty.
British Nominations
Three British Dames have been shortlisted for awards this year, with Helen Mirren, Maggie Smith and Judi Dench all featuring on the nominations list.
Maggie Smith has been nominated for best supporting actress in Downton Abbey, which looks set to repeat its previous successes, after picking up a handful of nominations. The popular show was nominated for the best television drama series award. The series’ Michelle Dockery has also been shortlisted for best actress.
Gareth Neame, the executive producer of the show, said: “This continued run of success for Downton in the US awards demonstrates the affection for the show in America and shows that British writing, acting and production can match the very best of Hollywood.”
Also representing the UK on the nominations list was Adele, whose Bond theme Skyfall earned a nomination for best original song.
British-born Damian Lewis was also shortlisted for best actor in a television drama for his performance in Homeland, whilst British television dramas Sherlock and The Hour also bagged places on the nominations list.
