Terror warning for India

TERRORISTS are planning "imminent attacks" on India's capital, the US warned yesterday. The country's embassy in New Delhi told Americans in the city to maintain "a high level of vigilance".

Yesterday's warning adds the word "imminent" to a state department advisory last month on the terror threat in India, citing increased indications of attacks in New Delhi. The embassy noted that markets and other areas frequented by westerners in New Delhi have been targeted in the past and said foreigners should watch out for unattended packages.

Militants linked to Pakistan-based Islamic groups have been blamed for previous attacks in New Delhi and Mumbai.
