Director JJ Abrams allowed Fleetwood, from Texas, to see the movie ahead of its December release after a social media campaign. The 32-year-old was diagnosed with spindle cell carcinoma and told he had just months to live.

His wife, Ashley, confirmed his death in a Facebook post on Tuesday morning, writing: “Daniel put up an amazing fight to the very end. He is now one with God and with the force. He passed in his sleep and in peace. He will always be my idol and my hero. Please hug uncle Marc for me and give Lucy lots of kisses. Rest in peace my love. #forcefordaniel”
