Tallest man, 29, stops growing

US researchers believe they have stopped the world’s tallest man growing any more.

Sultan Kosen, 29, suffers from acromegaly – a form of gigantism usually caused by a tumour on the pituitary gland which results in the overproduction of growth hormone – and is 8ft 3in and listed as the world’s tallest man in the Guinness Book of World Records.

Born in Turkey, he was treated at the University of Virginia Medical Centre in May 2010. Yesterday, university officials claimed Mr Kosen had now stopped growing.

“He’s done very, very well, fortunately,” said Dr Jason Sheehan.
