Syria: Rebels using missile system to down government helicopter

Syrian rebels have recently released several videos showing dozens of cases of Russian-made MANPADS - Man Portable Air Defence Systems - captured from government forces after their bases were overrun.

Footage released by the rebels on Tuesday seems to show the successful downing of a Syrian military helicopter, a Russian-built Mi-17, over Aleppo by such a missile. If confirmed, it would be the first time a government aircraft has been shot down by a rebel-wielded missile system, rather than a heavy machine gun.
