Sweden’s premier Fredrik ­Reinfeldt has filed for divorce after separating from his wife earlier this year following two decades of marriage.

A brief statement from Mr Reinfeldt’s office said he filed the paperwork at Stockholm District Court yesterday.

Mr Reinfeldt, 46, and wife and Stockholm politician Filippa, 45, separated in March, but the reason for the split has not been made public. They married in 1992 and have three children.

Former premier Goran Persson also divorced in office. Mr Reinfeldt’s centre-right coalition beat Mr Persson’s social democrats in the 2006 elections.
