Stornoway man found dead in India ‘loved life’

THE family of a Scot found dead in a river in India have paid tribute to “a gentle soul” who loved travelling the world.

David Booth, 28, a former offshore worker from Stornoway in Lewis, has been positively identified, Police Scotland has confirmed.

His family, including parents George and Bellann, issued a statement through the police which said: “David was a loving son, brother, uncle, nephew, brother in law and friend.

“He was a gentle soul and loved life, especially travelling the world to places like Brazil, Eastern Europe and India where he made many friends.

“He’ll be sorely missed by all that knew him and we take comfort that he died having lived such a full life and in a country he loved travelling in. Rest in peace.”

It added: “We would like our privacy to be respected at this difficult time.”

A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: “We can confirm that a body found by Police in India has been positively identified as missing man David Booth, aged 28, from Stornoway.

“From the information available to Police, there do not appear to be any suspicious circumstances.”

Mr Booth had been residing in Glasgow prior to travelling to India.

He was reported missing by his family on 31 May 2013, although his unidentified body had been recovered from the River Beas in Northern India some days earlier.

The discovery was made in the Kulla area, in the Indian state of Himachal Pradesh.

It is located on the banks of the Beas River. It lies between the Pir Panjal, Lower Himalayan and Great Himalayan range.

Mr Booth’s parents George and Bellann, who live in Plasterfield, Stornoway, have three older sons - George, Kevin and Phillip.
